CONVERSEON LAUNCHES FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND SEARCH ENGINE REPUTATION MANAGEMENT SERVICE
"SERMA" Utilizes Combination of Innovative Content Management Together with Sophisticated Optimization Skills To Help Companies Better Manage Their Reputations and Brand Online
New York, NY January 28, 2004 Converseon, a leading digital communications agency, today announced the roll-out of the industry's first search engine reputation management service (SERMA) designed specifically to help companies better manage their reputations in search engines. The service was created in response to the increasingly important role search engines have in determining a company's reputation by helping to manage what appears in search listings under key company branded keywords.
"Search engines have become the primary resource for journalists and other constituents to gather information on a specific company," says Robert Key, President & CEO of Converseon. "Yet, while many companies may pay close attention to how the traditional media portrays them, most companies are completely unaware of what information is appearing when search engine users type in a company's name. Search engines are a critical element for reputation management as they have become a powerful new form of media." He points to examples like McDonald's and Nike, where users typing in the companies' names on Google are exposed to highly negative information, including McSpotlight.org, a "protest site," and the "Boycott Nike Homepage."
"For many companies that otherwise spend substantial sums investing in their reputation and brand, they are often unpleasantly surprised at what they find in this incredibly powerful information resource," he adds. Key will be speaking on the impact on search engines on corporate reputation during the March 1-4 Jupiter Media SES Conference in New York.
Key points out that negative and inaccurate information, from articles, to product reviews to grassroots sites created by disgruntled customers or employees, is often ranked prominently under company-branded keyword searches, making this information highly-visible and accessible to important company constituents. SERMA is designed to combat this by combining proven "best practice" search engine optimization techniques with innovative linking strategies and content management development to help enhance the visibility of their content and dominate top listings for critical brand keywords.
Converseon reports that the service has been effectively and successfully beta-tested with a multi-nation client and is now ready for a broader roll-out. The agency intends to provide the new SERMA service directly to leading companies and via select partnerships.
